Debian installation on Amilo 7620
Since I received some clicks from people looking for installation instruction of Linux on an Amilo 7620 I hasted to write some more useful information in the page Debian on my laptop. If you can provide me feedback or questions for that page please post them as comments of this thread.
Hello!!! Scuse me for my English but I’m from Italy.
I have a problem installing linux with my Amilo A 7620
that have a CD/DVD RW8160.

Ti correggo un po’ sulla terminologia. linux si riferisce al nocciolo de sistema operativo, anche se il termine è abusato. Le istruzioni che ho dato sul mio sito si riferiscono alla distribuzione Debian Sarge, mentre tu usi la SuSE. Che versione usi?
Probabilmente cambiare kernel risolverebbe il problema. Di solito al momento dell’installazione un ALT+F# ove è un numero ti da varie pagine per un’installazione alternativa. Se il tuo sistema è già installato prova ad installare un altro kernel o compilarne uno con il file di configurazione che ho messo sul sito.
Ho usato SuSE circa 4 anni fa, quindi non mi ricordo più come funzioni. Visto che il tuo CD-ROM non funziona, puoi scaricare un kernel dalla rete. Puoi trovare su RpmFind la lista dei kernel disponibili (scegli uno che non si chiami user-mode linux o qualcosa di strano e che sia della stessa serie che il tuo kernel cioè 2.4.xx o 2.6.xx a seconda del risultato di ‘uname -a’).
PS: Non so quanto tu conosca di UNIX o linux, quindi non offenderti se ho risposto come ai newbies. Ora sono immerso nel lavoro, quindi non ho molto tempo. @iceman123 - this problem is for DVD-RW on Suse-linux - a workaround is :
on boot give the parameters : “hdc=noprobe hdc=cdrom” (if /dev/hdc is your cdrom)
you can write it in menu.lst in grub with or without yast, then it boot automaticly ok.
