After the “Proof of concept” release last week, version 0.2 of the application enhancer script for the game Mob Wars was published earlier this morning.
Among others is features:
- A new statistics panel with all your income data in one place.
- A preferences module that allows you to set the options of all other modules.
- A way to choose which job to perform.
- A bank module that deposits your cash into the bank every time a job is done or your hourly income arrives.

Also available on UserScripts.org.
[Update: there was a little but very nasty bug in a function that only FF2 executed that rendered the script totally unusable... Version 0.2.1 replace version 0.2.
What was the bug? In the function Utils.getElementsByClassName I forgot the return statement :-D]

For those who are eager to test our Mob Wars script, we decided to publish a preview of the current state of the script. What does it do? It does jobs automatically once it has gathered enough data.
To get started you have to visit the stockpile page and then go to the jobs. If no errors occur the script should begin doing the best job (for the minimum payout / energy ratio) in a loop and also the prep jobs that are needed.
Disclaimer: this is an alpha release, it means that I tested it only for a very short amount of time and the script could even not work at all.
There are many things that I ignore about the game, like the delays for energy, health and stamina, a complete list of jobs that are available at high levels, etc. If you have these informations, please send them to me either as a comment on this blog or to piotr DOT karwasz AT gmail DOT com.

[Update]: A new version (alpha2) was uploaded to enforce the check of Stockpile, so the script is easier to use.

Since a new feature (”In the oven”) in the PackRat application disrupted the functioning of the script, we publish a rapid fix to this issue. I would like to thank James for his patch.

Also available on Userscripts.org.
In order to improve the main workflow of the code, we made a big rewrite of the Facebook Monsters Enhancer script>. Version 1.1 works more smoothly, takes less space in your Firefox preferences and has a couple of new features:
- Clan members that did not fed you for a couple of days (3, but you can change this by modifying TOLERANCE_TIME in the script’s code) are replaced with active members taken from your clan’s feed history. We try to achieve this way always 8 people feeding your monster every day.
- The delay for next fight is now much more reliable and so are the number of attacks.
- The different cycles can now begin on any page and when your script finished the automatic function you can browse monster pages without being always brought back to the monster’s profile.
Since the interest in this game has faded, we won’t probably release any new versions of the script, except bug fixes.

More than two weeks passed since I released version 0.4 of the Facebook Packrat Autoclicker. It is past due time I publish an update of what is going on in the developer’s camp.
First of all I won’t be able to do much work on the script for the next few weeks: my Ph.D. is taking most of my time these days. If another developer wants to help me out he’s welcome to contact me on the project’s SourceForge page. I’d really appreciate that.
Many of the proposed features (highlighting the collections selected by the user, grinding, integration with the wiki) need a more complex configuration window that the one that is available today, so I am completely rewriting this part of the script. At the end you will be able to select the collections and cards you are interested in, the cards in your pack that you want to use in grinding/stealing, etc.
With the multiplication of features the script file will become really huge and complex. It begins already to be difficult to understand how it works,… even for me. So I’ll use a modular approach that will allow me to put the different features into different modules and make module writing as easy as possible. What does it mean: for now you must be patient until the next release, but afterwards adding new features will be as easy as writing a blog post (or easier).
Many people message me with problems in installing the user scripts in their browsers. Here is a little FAQ to help you out:
- How do I install (GreaseMonkey) user scripts?: You have just to follow these simple steps:
- Make sure you use Firefox as your browser. If you don’t have it yet you can dowload it here.
- Install the GreaseMonkey Firefox add-on.
- Click on the link of the user script. A confirmation dialog for the installation should pop-up. Press the ‘Install’ button and you are done.
You can find a more detailed walk-through in the Greasemonkey Manual. A common mistake is to still try using Internet Explorer even after the installation of Firefox, I can show you my logs to convince you that people fall into this trap. Yes, downloading Firefox is not enough, you have to use it.
- When and how should I reinstall the scripts?: The only reason you should ever reinstall a script is if the data stored in your browser becomes inconsistent (for example during an upgrade). If such is the case check the script commands (Tools > GreaseMonkey > Script Commands) to see if there is a command like “Reset preferences”. If you don’t find any you can uninstall the script and install it again, but while uninstalling don’t forget to check the “Also uninstall associated preferences” checkbox: without that your reinstall is useless.
- What about privacy?: User scripts are installed in your browser, store data on your computer (Firefox preferences) and no information gathered is ever sent. At least this is the policy of my scripts. You can find malicious user scripts on the web, so stay away from them. Some of my scripts (notably the PackRat script) need to download daily a database from my server, I use the number of hits to know the number of daily users.
- Where can I find other user scripts?: A great resource is UserScripts.org, all my scripts have a page there and you can easily search the site for anything you want.
- I would like a script for the … application, what should I do?: If it is a Facebook application post a feature request on the Facebook GreaseMonkey SourceForge tracker. We’ll try to answer you as soon as possible. Otherwise ask on the UserScripts.org forums.
After more than a month without releases, we eventually published version 1.0 of our script. The release focuses mainly on one big feature (mostly written by ViXaY): you can now buy stuff automatically.
If you enable Auto-buy the script will automatically purchase shields and boom sticks if you have enough money to buy them and you don’t already have them.
This version allows you to do every action that the game have automatically. There will be probably no more versions of the script unless you have a brilliant idea that needs implementing. Happy fighting to you all!

The version 0.4 of the Facebook Packrat Enhancer is ready to be used and enjoyed. I would like to personally thank everybody that contributed feedback and new ideas on this blog. Some of the features requested are not yet in this release, but I am working on them.
This version has a couple of new features, that I hope will make you enjoy even more playing Packrat:
- You can now pause the credit gathering cycle by pressing SPACE while the script is looking for money. The keyboard shortcut works only if the browser haven’t yet started to load the next page, so try hitting the space key many times to be sure not to miss the time frame.
- You can now access the script’s Preferences Panel on the right of the ‘Buy From The Markets’ tab.
- You have now an option to ‘Automatically pick up pop-up cards’ in the Preferences Panel.
- There is also an option to ‘Pause gathering cycle when pop-up card shows up’. This option is not compatible with the previous one. I suggest to have one of this options always on, otherwise you’ll miss precious cards. You can deactivate both of them if you wish just to collect credit.
- To collect an arbitrary amount of credit, go to the script’s configuration. The amount is limited to 1000 credit, but you can easily modify the code to whatever amount you want (but be sure to read the comment before the variable MAX_AMOUNT).
So get it now using the link below:

Since a couple of weeks I am receiving thousands of requests for non-existing files on my webserver:
aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd - - [04/May/2008:06:45:31 +0200]
“GET /ratty/.wine/drive_c/Program%20Files/uTorrent/PSP%20MEGAPACK…/lfc-vt3e.006 HTTP/1.1″ 302 337
“http://88.191.27.73/ratty/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/uTorrent/PSP MEGAPACK…”
“Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727)”
and all hits come from Chinese sources. I don’t exclude the possibility that the server was cracked and used to distribute copyrighted content. Anyway two facts tell me the contrary:
- All the requests hit my web-server and are logged as 404 errors. This should not happen if the server were cracked and the users could actually download the files.
- The number of requests that I have in my logs should have generated a huge network activity on the server. Once again this is not the case (the network activity monitored by my hosting provider is normal).
Hence I think that I am the victim of an IP number error (like a dialing error for phones) and someone distributed (probably on TorrentLeech, though I don’t have access to their forums) a list of addresse that users retrieve using web spiders (the clients that generate the hits in my logs does not have javascript enabled, otherwise I would be millionaire through my AdSense program
).
To stop polluting my logs and straining my web-server I devised a simple solution: block requests. From now on everyone that tries to download one of the incriminated URLs will end up on a page like this and his IP will be blocked for an hour (the link does nothing, but has the same output as the real script).
In time I intend to extend this behaviour to all Internet Parasites like referer and comment spammers, those who scan my server for non-installed and vulnerable PHP application (no, I don’t have mysqladmin, whoever hits the /mysqladmin URL most probably wants to do something nasty), etc.

In the last few days we released several versions of the new Facebook Packrat Enhancer, adding new features every day.
Packrat is an addictive# game where you buy and steal cards from markets and other players in order to complete several card collections.
Our script features:
- Automatic collection of free credits that appear at random times in the game.
- Automatic detection of pop-up cards. The released script leaves the choice to accept or refuse the cards to the user, but you can accept everything automatically by commenting two lines of code (those following the DELETE comment)
- Automatic gathering of credits when you don’t have enough to buy a card: just look for the link “Get X credits” in the market.
- Highlighting of new cards. If you find a card, in another player’s pack or a market, that is missing from the collections in your vault, it will be automatically put at the first position in the pack/market and the action to perform will be in all caps.
Facebook Packrat Autoclicker: version 0.3
Also available on UserScripts.
In the near futures, if there are people interested, we could expand the script by adding the information from Packrat Wiki, and allow to look automatically for the ingredients to make missing cards, automatically steal cards you are looking for, and much more. Let me know (in the comments) if someone is interested.
# It is so addictive that I had to uninstall the game after a couple of days of continuous playing.
